Why Product Personalization Works

In marketing, the more personal your strategies, the more effective your campaign. Promotional products are an excellent way to accomplish this.  After receiving a promotional product, 85 percent of people do business with that company, and the cost per impression is less than traditional media.  This is why gift-giving initiatives are so effective. You can take this a step further with product personalization. Product personalization involves imprinting items with custom names and messages along with your logo. This means you are staying top of mind while providing a completely customized gift. If you are still unsure if this strategy is right for your organization, here are a few reasons why product personalization works:

Names Matter

In 2014, Coca-Cola brought it’s “Share a Coke” campaign to the United States. This campaign put first names on bottles and suggested the buyer shared it with the name listed. This lead to an increase in sales volume for the first time since 2000. This is because names resonate. Beyond feeding our vanity (which I don’t know about you, but I have to feed mine at least twice a day), there is a deeper psychological connection. Names tie us directly to our identity. We have specific memories and feelings tied to our name. Coca-Cola capitalized on this idea of identity and experienced significant growth as a result.  Duplicate this success with using names whenever possible. Even if it’s not with a personalized product,  addressing clients by name throughout your marketing strengthens their connection to your brand.

More Than A Number

Another reason product personalization works is it helps your customers feel like more than just a number. Taking the time to personalize a product with their name shows effort and a desire to offer something unique to them. As mentioned previously, names resonate. This concept also works with group names, dates, events, and slogans. The point is to customize the product with something relatable to select customers.  Your brand’s ability to understand that and create something specific to the individual strengthen customer relationships. Customers want to feel seen. A custom product with their name, especially if its a particularly unique name, goes a long way to make them feel special. And who doesn’t like feeling special?

Unique Brand Experience

Promotional products place your brand in the hands of your buyers. While that alone creates a unique experience, personalizing it improves this experience. You can even take this a step further by selecting products based on buyer personas, which targets based on individual tastes and preferences. Additionally, personalized items are kept far longer than other promotional products (which is already two years on average). Lastly, it transforms the exchange from a simple giveaway to a commemorative moment. The more you can make your customer feel celebrated and appreciated, the stronger their loyalty.

Personalized products are not just great for customers. They are excellent morale boosters for employees and perfect for nonprofit searching for donor gifts. The key is to choose a product that is unique and relevant. No one wants a useless gift. Do not be the socks giver of your industry. Take your time to send something that will actually knock their socks off. Check out our Choice Personalization collection for products you can individually customize, without breaking the bank.
