Any good marketer knows that word of mouth is the best type of promotional strategy. It is also one of the most elusive. It can be difficult to track, and you have no control over what others say about your organization. But when executed correctly, the results are unparalleled. Here are five ways to boost word of mouth:

Boost Word of Mouth With Social Media

Social media is one the best ways to increase your social currency. To be effective, it is crucial to have an in-depth understanding of your audience and their needs. Produce content that resonates with your intended market that is highly shareable. Ask questions, share funny images, make entertaining videos. Create a presence that people want to engage.

Encourage Customers To Post/Share Their Stories

People love to talk about themselves. Capitalize on this universal truth by encouraging your customers to share their experiences with your organization. Social media is a great way to do this, but you can also use email or more traditional methods. Make your clients the star. Not only will this create a positive and personal connection with your clients, but also encourage others to engage with your brand.

Provide Outstanding Customer Service

When you have a positive experience with an organization, that experience is likely to stick with you. If it is positive enough, you will share that experience with others, perhaps even recommend the organization to friends and family. Customer service is the time to shine. Make every interaction you have with your customer, from awareness to purchase, as excellent as possible. By providing a great customer experience you increase the likelihood of that customer recommending your brand. You also increase the chances of repeat business.

Offer A Referral Program

Although this may be a little on the nose, referral programs are a great way to boost a word of mouth campaign. You are literally asking someone to recommend your company and provide a reward for doing so. When creating a referral program, be as specific as possible. What action does the potential customer need to take for your current client to get their prize? Also, make it easy for your current customer to redeem the gift. Nothing worse than offering something and not being able to deliver.

Create An Incentive Program

Incentives are not just for referrals. You can offer incentives for almost any action a customer or potential customer takes related to your business. It is a great way to build a positive relationship with your customer at any stage of the buying process and increases the chances of an organic recommendation. Who doesn’t like getting a reward for doing something they already wanted to do? Incentives for everyone!

Although there is no way to ensure that you are the talk of the town, these steps can significantly boost word of mouth for your organization.
